Shion is an enigma. She's a cynical person with a nihilistic core, truly believing that the journey is all that matters as the destination is the same unanimously; so it is best to enjoy life as it passes by. She was once a more bubbly and excitable person when she was in UA, but growing up and the experience/maturity she has gained has dawned a sort of noble aura to her. She carries herself with pride, treats the press with a nice smile (or at least her physiological equivalent) and does her job. That isn't to say she isn't passionate, rather Shion expresses her passion where it really counts: in her work, when her colleagues need her, or when an unexpected situation calls for it. Otherwise she upholds a respect towards others and carries herself in an approachable way for a Hero. She used to be a smoker, but after one of her lungs were damaged in combat and she nearly died in an ICU, she's cut the addiction: yet the fact remains she has her vices and enjoys her luxuries in life. She has a phenomenal work ethic that she sticks to strictly unless a more efficient and productive alternative becomes apparent. Perhaps most notably her soft side is shown towards those that are aspiring to become Heroes, as in her life getting to that point meant making some brave and difficult decisions that she enjoys seeing reflected in others that are willing to endure a hard future. To those people, they can perhaps expect for her to slip back into her old and buried happy ways.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: Six feet and eight inches.
WEIGHT: Three hundred and ten pounds.
EYE COLOR: Unique: She has oddly shaped eyes with black black and glowing turquoise striped retina and 6 irises with pairs of 2 coloured glowing red, blue, and green respectively.
HAIR COLOR: White.
FACECLAIM NAME: Original Art! Amamoto Shion from Heroism Reignited!
FACECLAIM SERIES: Heroism Reignited!
Starstrike makes for equal parts intimidating, exotic and good looking. She is certainly bright, with a collection of naturally occurring baubles located all around her body. Her head has three glowing orbs colored red, green and blue respectively with each of them orbiting around her head via some innate biological function. Her tail seems to have similar orbs, however these three attached to the three endpoints of her tail seem to be more pale in coloration compared to the ones around her head. The rest of the orbs on her body are embedded at various choices, such as the pale red and crimson marble sized orbs in her knuckles or the four massive pink and orange orbs in her shoulders. The alternative orbs are the blue and pink swirling ones found at the endpoints of her microreactors that serve as hubs for chemicals that are injected into her body. The remainder of her biological baubles include eight different rings around her body. Two of them are a pale gold while the other six on her tail are smaller and are coloured a more proper golden hue. The first and largest pale gold ring acts as a halo and gently spins around her temple. The other has always magnetized to anything put through it, allowing her to manipulate it to be wherever she wants it to be on her person or equipment. The final strange biological fixture on her body are her spinal reactors: five cobalt microreactors that are shaped like cones. These reactors have small windows that show fluid levels. These reactor windows also show the active combination of the blue and pink chemicals in the microreactors.
Her actual appearance itself is also uncanny. She bears snowy shoulder length white hair with crisp rectangular bangs. Jet black skin is contrasted only by all of the glowing bits and pieces that make up her form. Shion has a strong jawline with a balanced face in between round and angular. Her ears of which there are four of them with two on each side appear much larger and more jagged than Human ears. One ear curves upwards from behind the exterior ear, allowing a greater exposure to sound. Of course, the difference in hearing is negligible without intervention of her quirk. Her eyes are almost entirely alien, with an upper portion very much resembling a normal Human eye shape but with the addition of vertical strips of retinal tissue that run down either side of her cheek. The lids of these eyes close horizontally to blink. Her retinal tissue is a black base with glowing turqoise stripes diagonally spaced throughout the eye. In total her eyes support 6 total irises with three on either side. The uppermost irises are red, the center ones are blue and the bottom two are green. This eye configuration gives her some formidable vertical perception, being able to see near her feet and upwards at the same time. Her simple little button nose is likely the most ordinary feature of her face, because her lips are also an entirely alien feature. Instead of lips, she seems to have four vertical slits that when she open her mouth spread to either side to allow her to eat. When she talks, her mouth doesn't move as her vocalization occurs behind the surface face. Between these vertical gaps are small bits of tissue that orient up or down to likely convey emotion. Her teeth can sometimes be seen, and are configured in a horizontal pattern instead of a vertical one. Her tongue rests where a normal Human tongue rests. The last facial feature involves two little antennae that end in bulbs that glow in a variety of colors based off of the emotion she is expressing.
Her actual build is something between an endomorph and a mesomorph. She certainly has a massive amount of muscle, but smoothing out the extreme muscle definition and making her look a little less like a bodybuilder is the effects of her diet. She's on the heavier side, with a lot of muscle to mute the extremes of either element. Aside from being encrusted with various alien orbs, her body while having a very noticeable hourglass shape mostly retains a humanoid one. The exception of this humanoid shape is caused by her alien mutations: she has another arm on either side of her body at the same vertical level partly fused at the shoulder with the other. These arms have full locomotion and function, but unlike a quirk that directly would create these arms they are no more capable than her primary arms are. Her nails are normally a dull grey, but being as fashion savvy as she is, she typically paints them various dark but saturated colors.
She almost always wears the same kind of clothes. Form fitting jeans or leggings, a belt if it's necessary and a sleeveless shirt tucked under her waistband or belt. She tends to toy with various hero costume concepts first in her normal wardrobe, such as a green sleeveless shirt that has "Bang!" written on either side of her torso. Her hero costume isn't made of any significant materials that would currently provide her with any benefits, and because of that she regularly needs replacements and actively pursues financial opportunities to be able to commission an official suit. The design she has currently is a full pale gold colored jumpsuit with technological looking blackened steel clamps at the gaps of her sleeves and neck. On the front of the jumpsuit is a white colored star shooting down from her V neck collar towards her stomach with a trail of sparks. She also has a belt with her suit, which has a buckle depicting a chromatic orb surrounded with a black metal. Her boots are also of metal make, which gives her step an intimidating clank when she's wearing her hero outfit.
HISTORY
Born in a hospital in Musutafu Japan, the home of Yuuei Academy, the life of Shion began. Her name was Shion written with the characters 星媛 meaning “Beautiful Star”, and belonged to a family with the characters 天本 (Amamoto) meaning ‘Heavenly Origin’. The alien quirks had been something that the family had been dealing with for generations and generations by this point. Her existence actually started with a quirk marriage intended to make the child not have an alien appearance, but as it is known that would ultimately fail. Her father was a man named Amamoto Daiki while her mother was a foreigner named Lizabeta Volkova. His quirk was similar to hers, though it landed more on the emitter side of things than mutations with only some minor changes to his physiology. Her father was capable of emitting three small UFOs around him that could shoot lasers. However typically the UFOs would end up being used to card plates and items around the house when he was multitasking.
Her mother was actually a famous Hero from Russia, and they’d met after Daiki felt trapped in his own hometown based on the abuse the incredibly alien appearance would garner him. There were certainly weird looking people, but the disturbing were a rarer sight. It was particularly when one thought of how they functioned that it got bad, as on the surface while exotic they didn’t necessarily look disgusting. In fact, Shion for example would turn out to look quite photogenic. Fleeing Japan, Daiki would cross paths with the empathetic Lizabeta and after hearing his story through a mixture of sympathy and genuine connection the two would become partners. Three years later, the confidence their relationship had built up brought Daiki back to Japan with Lizabeta.
Lizabeta’s quirk was part of the reason they decided to have a kid. Being a pro hero, her quirk was significantly more potent and developed than Daiki’s. It was assumed that because of that, it would be the dominant quirk that’d develop in the child and spare them from a life of rejection. Her quirk was about as brute force as they get, essentially she just never stopped growing. Lizabeta was a giant with a terrifying mutation quirk. Thankfully for both her and the people around her the growth has had diminishing returns with each subsequent year over her forties.
She was thirty two when she had Shion.
A beautiful crying baby, the kind of idyllic scene one might imagine some form of Heaven. Everything went quiet as snow drifted outside of the hospital window, the infant passed into her father's arms.
They were a loving mid-high income family with the salary her mother got from her Hero work. It was a lucrative business keeping Humanity safe, filled with hazard pay and only offset by collateral expenses. Ultimately as time does, it would move along and Shion would be a child.
Not just any child, a perfectly ordinary half Japanese child. As she was, it was her appearance she'd have were she not to develop a quirk. Pale skin, blue eyes and blond hair with a rounded poofy cheeked face- though that might’ve been because she was a kid. School was normal, at four years old it was fun to guess who’s quirk might appear next. Earlier in the year the first boy to gain a quirk got the ability to summon and manipulate toy army men in the dozens. Just sitting around and watching them fight out toy wars was fascinating, it brought the excitement to lunch break.
Most of the way through the year, the child would have her own turn at the chopping block. That was truly what the quirk reveal was, it was a grand judge deciding how the rest of one's life was supposed to pay out. Were they gifted and destined for greatness or were they a reject? In a world defined by quirks, it was a pivotal point for discrimination. So when in the middle of glance there was a poof of clouds atop Shion’s head and a glowing red ball started flowing in its place all eyes turned to her and the class went quiet. It was like watching their favourite creatures hatch and evolve in Diopets. Looking up, she felt another one pop into existence. Making sounds of fascination, the class watched as the cloud dispersed into a glowing blue orb. And then another one and another. The first was a glowing green orb and the second was a pale gold halo that went around her head.
Then it kicked up a pace, and it was around that time the teacher hurried over and attempted to help Shion up with a tug of the bicep. Getting up she could feel pops and poofs as things appeared out of comical bursts of cloud. Pop pop pop, three orbs appeared floating midair around her backside. Then there was a flourish of sparkles as a thread-like tail connected them all, at this point she was being tugged outside of the classroom. More pops and poofs as rings formed around her tail and another Halo formed, it was a smaller one on top of the first halo.
Then the pain kicked in, and with a pained cry she fell forward only to be scooped up by the teacher who started jogging. Cobalt cylinders were forming out from her spine, and Shion had broken into a sweat. By the time she was at the campus quirk doctor’s office her parents had gotten a call. She was about halfway through her transformation at that point, an ugly one that forced those around her to simply look on with worry written over their expressions.
Ten minutes later and it was complete, her parents arrived. Having broken into a pained sweat and now lay exhausted in the chair, Shion could barely comprehend her surroundings. Her vision faded and she blacked out, but she would later be told that the Doctor had decided she should be put into a quirk control class after some tests were ran on her quirk and it was documented. The decision was made with her mother and fathers quirk in mind.
Nothing would ever be the same again, her destiny had seemingly been manifest in all but fifteen minutes.
Apart from the quirk control class that took place after school hours and just had her in attendance, the treatment started to get worse. Naturally being so young, there wasn’t much of a concept of bullying. Though the innocent teasing of her weird features would take more of a toll than an older version of herself would ever dare admit. Yet as the years continued to pass on by and she continued to curiously explore her quirk and interact with the world around her she’d get a reputation as a monster. They’d passed the innocent teasing stage and gotten to the cooties stage, she was enemy number one in the room given her intimidating features. Her eyes alone made it look like she was staring into one's soul, let alone the fact that her teeth chewed horizontally. Even more noticeable was the fact that she couldn’t sit in normal chairs and needed special chairs made for her spinal reactors, the makeshift accommodations the school made led to many awkward slip-ups as the holes meant to put the reactors through caught the orbs at the reactor endpoints when she stood up.
All around, the bullying had begun. Bullying that would become abuse, but it was the seed of her cynicism towards Humanity and the beginning of her contemplation. Naturally when word got out of her father at a parent teacher interview, she was officially labelled as the alien girl. Among her class she’d always be the weird one. Moving only changed the voices and faces that relayed the harsh harassment, while sympathetic people were few and far in between. There were times faculty outright just looked guilty for not knowing what to do, there was only so many things that could be done in situations such as Shion’s.
If they wanted to call her an Invader so bad, maybe she’d have to start an invasion. For a kid that was some seriously dark thinking she’d started at the peak of her elementary years before middle school. At the time it didn’t help that her mother had gone through a serious battle and was bedridden for the moment with no known end date for her recovery. The stress and her situation made her want to enact vengeance. She was a kid, so she actually would go through with it. The next time someone called her an Invader she punched them hard enough that they flew through the glass. It was the talk of the entire school, she nearly got a criminal record and her family had to pay for repairs to the school. While the one kid never talked to her again, people would distantly mock her and play with her feelings.
Going into her middle school years, she wasn’t just bullied. She was alone, the people who so feverishly mocked her were not even interacting with her anymore. She just got a universal cold shoulder. The worst was at the start of a year when she’d feel eyes digging into her back to pick a seat first so everyone could sit away from her. It made her want to cry over many sleepless nights, but she couldn’t. Not while her mom was hurting. She thankfully had good role models with strong moral values to guide her. Heroes go through tough times, being the good guy doesn’t mean living a good life. Sometimes- many times the world abuses the good and rewards the bad because of how inefficient being good can be.
Interestingly enough, UA would be the one to reach out to her a year before the entrance exam. Perhaps a faculty way back then scouted her, perhaps Lizabeta had connections, the exact details weren’t known. However reading the invitation she was left with a very defined couple of choices. She could succumb to her hatred and wage a war against Humanity to be the last one standing or… She could play the rebel and do the thing every animalistic impulse in her body refused.
After days of thinking and contemplating morals, good and evil and the values she was taught through her initial childhood she came to a decision. In the end what tipped the scales was that she didn’t want to see the betrayal on her mother's face when she finally found out what she was up to. A hero watching their child turn evil was unimaginably cruel.
She chose to be a Hero. She chose to prove them wrong. She chose to be the best of her class, the best Hero, the strongest. She chose to dig out her own destiny instead of cave into what some unknown force of Quirk nature insisted on dictating for her. She chose her own future, and the authority and influence of a decision she had complete control in was addicting.
Yet her mother couldn’t be there to see her accept. She couldn’t be there for the celebration. Shortly after she was bedridden it was revised that she might be comatose for an unknown amount of time. The doctors were ambiguous and evasive, citing years at one point. The truth was vague, but the reality is that her mother would still be sleeping to this day. If she woke up, she’d wake up in her seventies. As a Human being she felt empathetic, putting herself in her mother's shoes she felt horrified. One fight could end in death, that was an easy pill to swallow. Yet going to the hospital and waking up with your life washed away… It terrified Shion.
She had more immediate things to worry about. Having overcome the immediate abuse directed towards her, Shion was hard at work preparing for the UA entrance exam. Invite or not, she was not an exception to the rules. Everyday she was her own coach, she was a brutal one too. Many say oneself is their own worst critic, and Shion was savage. She pushed herself to collapse, her father was worried sick for her health and she just kept going. She ran for miles, deadlift tractor tires at the Musutafu dump, and meditated trying to precisely control the functions of her quirk like the chemical injections while trying to spot the subtleties of nature. It was a time she’d look back at as her Golden Time, as hindsight often replaces pain with nostalgia. For all her suffering and aching then to make it, in the future she knew she made it and could look back on it fondly.
When the exam came, she was the number one examinee. She nearly aced both scores with an incredible 84 points and 98% respectively on the practical and theoretical tests. She was in. The heartbreak of her mother not being there to see her do something would be a reoccurring theme, but eventually it was one she understood she would need to get used to. As she grew up, she’d stop letting it get to her as much. She’d preoccupy herself more on wanting her mother to be proud of the person she’d become when she wakes up.
When, not if. She didn’t want to consider an if.
UA was a highlight of her life. She loved the motto of Go Beyond, Plus Ultraaa! The people there were also some of the most generous and accepting people she’d ever met, and many of her friends nowadays are people from her class in UA. In fact, the people who develop her Rayguns to the present day were in the same year in Class H as opposed to A. Naturally, her overwhelming work ethic and ruthless determination led her to maintain the top student in her class in both practical and theoretical studies. While that would make some jealous, none could deny that when situations popped up (and a few did during their years at the school) her dedication would be what kept them safe.
Most notably was during their second year when a group of villains wanted to make a statement during a class trip to an aquarium. The villains broke the glass in key locations, flooding and endangering upwards of a hundred lives. With the help of her classmates, Shion had excelled and truly defined going beyond in order to rapidly throw out punches whose shockwaves kept the wall of water from engulfing and drowning her and her classmates.
Ultimately the villains would be tracked down by the proper heroes, but her performance was still an example of the fruits of her labor. In her third year, she would be a late bloomer in thinking of her hero name and costume design. By that point she’d won two Sports Festivals and gotten a fanpage of a few thousand followers for being such a prominent and promising rising hero. Agencies were reaching out with dozens of contracts for Shion, and UA served as the middleman to arrange multiple prestigious opportunities for her to experience the true world of heroes early.
She’d go on internships, shadow heroes on actual missions and train with actual professional heroes as well. Her third year being the capstone of all of her hard work leading up to graduation was so action packed that she was rarely in class. She was constantly catching up in her dorm in her free time. She ended up acquiring her starter hero work permit, and would develop her first supermove that she’d become known for. Subatomic Jackhammer! She would debut it against her biggest fight the first year after she graduated against a villain named Drillbit.
Punching so rapidly and fiercely, through blood and sweat the dangerous fight had left the debut graduated hero with a victory after having shattered the villains drill front and knocked him out. The fans were rising, the honeymoon phase was incredibly strong. She embodied the ideal students UA was known to produce, and she loved every moment of glory being a Hero offered. She also knew what she was doing carried some serious weight, but she was more optimistic and bubbly on the high of a blooming career than she would be in a couple of decades.
Riding into her twenties strong, she would quickly rise to levels which were regarded to be too strong. Public opinion started to change for the hero Starstrike when many of her fights while won ended in excessive unnecessary collateral damage. Blogs were filled with people venting about destroyed property, she lost nearly half of her fans on top of the extreme financial burden of having to cover all of the associated costs involved. Yet she didn’t know an alternative, she couldn’t hold back enough to preserve the environment around her: she was truly a force to be reckoned with.
Three years forward and her managers filed for bankruptcy on her behalf. Up until that point they had tried to get her involved with an agency that could provide her with insurance benefits that would cover the damages associated with her hero work, but none of them offered a high enough coverage. It led to her being shunned by hero agencies as a potential member, isolating her as one of quite a few lone wolf Heroes. In her slump, a hand would reach down in her mid twenties.
A boy named Watanabe Ryotaro, the one from Class H. Apparently he’d known of her more than she expected, and apparently he’d developed a prototype Raygun in order to harness her ability more efficiently instead of the pure untamed raw power it gave out at that point in time. Needless to say as a Prototype it was essentially a flop, blowing up with her first shot. Yet it did shoot a single bullet, creating a more condensed and gentle shockwave while still preserving the impact power in a singular trajectory just like a punch.
It was the nudge she’d needed, a push to take herself to the next level and get back into it. In order to start making better versions Ryotaro asked for a biological sample, a drop of blood to analyze to replicate the organic conditions needed for an orb to form. It is what allowed him to create the chromatic orb triangulation point, associated specifically with the Raygun. By pressing the trigger it’d pull from the empowering aura her baubles gave off to replicate the power a punch she’d deliver would have. Except this time it was a more precise instrument and could deliver the same power through a finer focal point with reduced collateral impact. It could still level buildings if shot directly into them at her modern day tier, but at the time a missed shot was significantly less impactful than before the change.
She had gone through her Shining Era (18-21) and struggled through what fans referred to as her Dark Era (22-25). At this point she returned to the spotlight with a phenomenal second wind in what became her Resurrection Era (26-29). She came back and in her first year doubled her villain takedowns with a renewed aggression against villains. At the time there was a Villain Organization that was attempting to start a supply chain of Hero trafficking through Japan. Hero Trafficking was a process defined by the villain group where they kidnapped pro heroes and restrained them to send off for dissection and study to try and replicate their powers. It resulted in largely just tragedy, misery and pain. Yet on the villains side, they had a couple of successes with niche quirks that could be exploited in such a way.
This villain group was called Halcyon, as their overall goal was to harness the powers of destructive quirks in the quirk database to turn them on society to rise up and turn the world into a dictatorial hell run with an iron fist to secure their version of world peace. She would spend years digging through these peoples hierarchical ladder until finally the fateful day came that ended the Resurrection Era.
She was twenty nine years old at the time.
She found out on the news first, at a run down office that she rented out only for herself. Sat down with a cigar (a hobby she’d picked up in her Dark Era) and turned on the TV only to see a disturbing sight. A man that looked to be her father was dressed up in a hospital gown and was laying down on the lawn of her family's home. Next to him were three costumed figures, one with an outstretched hand that seemed to be applying some sort of pressure onto her father to keep him pinned. It was a challenge, one that the news network picked up on as well.
“Who’s the Hero involved here?”
A pause as the internal network fed them the information.
“The hostage is Amamoto Daiki, and the hero they’re demanding show up is Starstrike.”
Around the same time as the live broadcast, her phone started to go rampant with alerts. Texts, phone calls, but she wasn’t even answering the phone. It was sitting alone on the dingy office desk. Bursting through the door and dashing through Osaka (where her family had moved to after her bullying in elementary school) she sailed through the city streets like a bullet. A blur that jumped from roof to roof and bounded through swaths of sky in a single moment. She could see it in the distance, lights indicating choppers in the sky. Getting closer she could see cameras, and leaping into the air she’d slam down on the lawn with all but a raygun in her hand and a dress shirt, dress pants and tie. She hadn’t had time to change into her Hero Suit, and had instead rushed as soon as she could over to the scene.
Around them was a ring of bystanders. Some of them were Pro Heroes that couldn’t engage lest the villains take out the hostage they were using for leverage. The only one they let in was Starstrike. Looking towards her, the encounter was still vividly known to Shion.
“Well well well… There you are, Starstrike. Did you expect to ruin everything we’ve aspired to and what… Move on with no consequences? Now now… I know you’ve got things to do and places to be, but frankly due to your meddling we… Don’t. So we’ll make ourselves at home here. Iowa, take out a knife and keep it to the old man's throat. If she runs or anyone intervenes, take him out. Kilo, I want you to help me deal with her. You’ve seen the kinda shit she can do, so I’d rather not be stereotypical and be arrogant. I’m already fucking up by enacting vengeance but well… You win some you lose some.”
The villain known as Surgeon gently shrugged and raised his hands to either side. He seemed unhinged to have his operation severely crippled and borderline shut down, driving him to what seemed to be madness. As he raised his hands, a series of knives made themselves visible. His partner stepped forward with an aura of pressure visibly weighing him down. Surgeon’s quirk seemed to be the manipulation of knives while Kilo’s was pressure infliction.
“Leave my dad alone, I’m what you want. You picked the wrong Hero to fuck with, buddy.”
She didn’t care that she was on TV. The fight would devastate the area, but due to the precision of her Raygun no one would be hurt. She could shoot at an upwards angle and if she missed it just meant it’d fly off and explode in the sky once it had travelled its maximum distance. Trading blows, except one was fists while the other was pressure fueled knives. The fight was the kind of things Heroes do a handful of times in their lives.
The sidelines cheered her name to win, but she couldn’t hear them. All she could see was the pained face of her father. Silent and defeated, he was just sad he was hurting herself for him. He’d called out for her to just let him go so the other heroes can help, but she refused. An entire hour later and she would be on a single knee, bleeding profusely with upwards of a hundred small cuts. Pressure was visibly being applied to her, the ground cracked below where she was. Her hair was ragged and had fallen over her face.
Her baubles were mostly gone, having been crushed over time from the pressure villain or hooked away from passing knives. The fight wasn’t looking good, the news networks were bracing for tragic stories while the audience had been struck silent as their hopes waned.
It was only at the precipice of obliteration that she could see it all. The fact that she was a beast, and they’d made the mistake of pushing her into a corner. As a knife flew towards her head she raised a hand up, the knife skewered straight through it and with a pained cry she closed her hand around the knife and crushed a large portion of it so that it was unusable. Standing up through the excessive pressure being pushed down onto her, Kilo’s eyes widened. With ragged breaths she’d turn sideways so that two knives flying towards her chest would stab into one of her right biceps. Flexing, the knives would become stuck and break as he tried to recall them.
“You… Made… A mistake…” She said, hoarse words rasping out from her mouth. Her head lifted to stare at him, wide and piercing their souls. As her shoulders went slack and her posture loosened with a burst of lights the baubles around her body repaired themselves and reactivated.
“Resurrection… The invasion never ends…”
Then with the power she’d gained from the reacquisition of her baubles she burst forward with lightning speed. Yet dangerously powerful as well, a wall of knives came into her view. Twisting her body as her raygun rose up she screamed out the words.
“EVEN NOW, I STILL REMEMBER WHAT IT MEANS TO GO BEYOND!”
The rayguns barrel light up a massive prismatic color as colors swirled into a massive boulder that the weapon couldn’t contain anymore. Having pressed the red overload button, with a fierce expression she watched her raygun shatter and as the prismatic orb swelled up to the size of a beachball. Bursting forward to cover the meter distance between her and it, her palm slammed into its surface and she hurled it forward like a baseball pitch!
“PLUUUUS!... ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
Knives shattered and caused chromatic flares to shoot out from the orb, yet it was so powerful that the knives just weren’t enough to stop it. Before Surgeon could shift from defense to fleeing, the boulder orb had burst through his wall and exploded. Behind him into the sky was a massive prismatic explosion that rocked Osaka that night. An entire house saw its roof get shredded, but its civilians were evacuated by the other onsight Heroes. What remained after the blast cleared was a staggering pair of legs. She’d overdone it, but at times like these sometimes death was necessary. Turning her attention towards the other two villains, a vicious gaze of hatred transfixed on the two of them. Stumbling back and raising their hands they appeared to surrender.
And so the Night of Hell was over, the name her fans would give the incident on her blog website. Raising a hand into the air with the glow of an orb within, she would stand proud and exhale one last ragged breath before slowly collapsing. She hit both knees first and with her hand still raised into the air, teetered forward and nearly hit the ground before ending up in the arms of someone.
It was… Her father? A small smirk tugged at her lips, and she blacked out.
The next time she’d wake up was in an ICU. She’d experienced dozens of lacerations and would be covered in scars. Her palm and biceps would be the worst of it, having clumps of scar tissue that would need to be surgically removed in order to have a proper surface. She’d have to stay for an entire week before her release, and during that time she got plenty of chances to talk to her father about all of the time that’d gone by since the last time they’d talked. That night was the first time she’d seen her father since her debut as a Hero. Nearly an entire decade. The exchanges were nothing less than heartwarming as she was reminded of the things she wanted to get away from. She was running from the tragedy of her mother, while forgetting about all the good things about her dad.
When she was cleared, it wouldn’t be long then until the start of her next and current era. She got more developed tech, a new suit and a new outlook on Hero work. If she could’ve been in a position to save someone else's family, she’d want to do that. For the first time she became selfless. The era would become known as her True Era, lasting from 30 to the present day and counting.
Of course, the next ten years wouldn’t be easier. They were bigger, more ambitious and more dangerous years than ever before. In fact, she’d have an encounter at thirty five that was even more lethal than the one that closed out her Resurrection Era. It would be a fight against a real big shot Villain in Tokyo, a six hour battle that took out two city blocks in the downtown area. It wasn’t just her, multiple heroes in Tokyo were involved in defending against PMC in an event called the Tokyo Siege. PMC was an acronym for Pure Malice Crew, though it played on the style in which it operated (Privatized Military Company). In a similarly dramatic and spectacular fight she would take out the leader going by the Villain name Hammerfist. In the same punch, she’d also get a sharpened fence post into the chest.
The ICU appeared again.
This time her surroundings were blurry, and she could hear the sucking of air through a ventilator. Then she could feel and see the massive apparatus and swarms of tubing that were keeping her alive. It was a miserable state as she coughed up gunk and needed to be rigorously maintained by doctors. She almost died, she’d later find out. Multiple heroes died defending from the attack, it was no surprise. She was truly and utterly vulnerable and crippled.
She would be in a state like that for several months, her fan mail piled up and it was all her managers could do to occasionally stop by to read her the messages.
And when she was recovered, even though her punctured lung could always come back with the wrong stimulus she got right back to it.
It was always a matter of going bigger, being better, reaching higher.
After four years and reaching the present day, it was no different.
It was always about going beyond, and it still is.
ITEMS
RAYGUN PSI
Raygun Psi is the 16th in its' lineage, roughly utilizing the greek alphabet for renditions of the technology. It is a weapon first and a support item second, a halfsy that is best declared a support weapon. It merely serves as a functional conduit for her energy, the same invisible energy her body harnesses from her spheres. Using biological samples from her, the engineers working on the item were able to allow it to absorb her energy just as she would when she goes to punch. When she pulls the trigger, the weapon begins absorbing the same energy she does for a brief moment where a large projectile forms inside with the force and power of one of her punches. The difference and purpose of this support item is to 1. provide a ranged option for battles and 2. to reduce collateral damage by increasing precision and mitigating collateral damage. The downside to the Raygun is that due to the stress on the worldly materials it can only be fired once every 2 turns.
TRUE ERA STARSTRIKE SUIT
The true era strikesuit is a pale golden full body spandex suit with blackened steel clamps on her shoulders and neck. The suit has no sleeves and has a V neck that goes down far enough to be fashionable but also press friendly. The design on the front appears to be a star shooting downwards with streaks of sparks following after it. The belt of the suit is of the same metallic nature, having a buckle that is a chromatic orb with a black ring around it. The suit has blackened steel gauntlets and greaves, making her sound intimidating with clanking footsteps when she moves.
Quirk AND SKILLS
QUIRK: Space Invader.
QUIRK TYPE: Mutation.
QUIRK RANK: Diamond.
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Space Invader is a mutation quirk that emits a strengthening aura from orbs and rings that seem to naturally exist around Shion's body. Seemingly indestructible, the bobbles passively let out a thrum and hum that empowers Shion. This makes it highly compatible with support equipment. Naturally the quirk is a superhuman enhancement that makes Starstrike more physically capable in the following categories: speed, strength, and endurance. The orbs seem to provide her strength, the rings provide her durability and the cobalt metal cone-like spinal factories seem to continuously develop and inject her with a substance that enhances her speed.
She is strong enough to level buildings, can run upwards of 200MPH, and is durable enough to survive multiple attacks from a Diamond quirk. Weaker quirks will have diminishing returns in attempting to damage her.
The creative potential with Space Invader presents itself with the existence of support equipment. With the right tools, the same energy utilized to empower Shion can empower the things that she uses. For instance her signature weapon resembling a Raygun isn't a naturally created item. Instead the raygun was made and the blasts it fires out are empowered by her quirk, a way to provide a more precise and controlled attack instead of her infamously destructive natural abilities that almost always end with pricey collateral damage. The blasts from her raygun carry a similar force to her punches as if they were focused precisely, resembling a chromatic plasma orb and an accompanying shockwave when it fires. The shockwave is capable of causing only a fraction of the damage the ones from her punches can cause, and is why her favoured approach is using her support equipment. Even made of hyper-strong metal alloys, the raygun still needs to be replaced once in a while.
It is certainly possible for future support equipment applications to result in branched out usage, but each instance will likely come down to a case by case scenario based on the plausibility of it being an effective application or not. Many would be redundant such as armors or melee weapons. The raygun only works because it allows a method to use her quirk in a more controlled and precise way while also allowing her attacks to be done from a range.
SUPER MOVES:
QUASAR CANNON
Quasar Cannon is one of Starstrikes three ultimate attacks. It also happens to be the most recently developed one, utilizing the new Raygun she has access to in order to expand her quirk and make it safer to use. Straight forward and simple, at the cost of the raygun (meaning she'll need to pay for a hefty replacement) Starstrike creates a gargantuan shot that destroys the Raygun as it expands. By the time it blasts forward, a deafening boom echoes outwards and all small inanimate objects (smaller than a traffic cone) within seventy five meters are pancaked and sucked towards it as it flies towards its target. It has the impact force to level a building, and explodes into a nuke of cosmic colours as large as a city block, however this explosion is only a fraction as large as it appears to be: only effecting as much as an average building. It travels as fast as her normal shots: that is to say as fast as she could swing a punch, quick enough to catch someone depending on the context of the situation. / Without her Raygun, Quasar Cannon has the same effect but without the ranged component, simply an explosion of slightly larger proportion coming out parallel to the direction of her punch. Naturally, both ways whether it be shot through the raygun or used manually is extremely taxing to use in terms of stamina. When the raygun is not used, the involvement of actual physical action makes the ability even more taxing to use.
SUBATOMIC JACKHAMMER
Subatomic Jackhammer unveils her singular fastest ability. By tensing her body to intense levels, she gains a temporary speed that lets her throw out hundreds of devastating punches in a matter of five or so seconds, fast enough that most conventional foes couldn't keep up. Each punch is less devastating than her slower strikes, but more than makes up for it dozenfold just based on how many punches she throws. Her attacks are so fast that it just appears as if there's a blur of shapes being thrown out and pulling back. It is best used against durable opponents, as the excessive drilling effect can potentially thwart even great armors. Naturally being such an intensive ability based on the sheer fact that at the end of it visible steam hisses off of her arms, it is exhausting and if truly pushed to the absolute limit can cause minor (1st to 2nd degree depending on intensity) burns on her arms.
RESURRECTION
Resurrection is a second wind, and allows for Starstrike to regenerate an entire ability array that is choosed when used. While it is incredibly taxing, the return of an excessive amount of power and energy makes up for it. The downside is that it entirely drains her reactors, forcing the cooldown of three turns until she can make use of her speed again. The sheer force and power required to do this sends out several shockwaves that can send medium sized objects like vending machines or stopsigns flying.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS:
1. For all the capabilities it provides, Space Invader comes with some glaring and obvious weaknesses. While the orbs possess a gravitational orbit around Shion that is quite powerful, it is more than possible to distance or destroy them in order to weaken her. Her various bells and whistles have associated percentiles that they contribute to the totals of her capabilities. In order to deal with these, a Platinum+ attack or action is required in order to destroy/destablize one or more of them.
-Orbs-
3x head orbs each worth 10% of her superhuman strength.
3x tail orbs each worth 10% of her superhuman strength.
4x embedded shoulder orbs each worth 10% of her superhuman strength.
-Rings-
1x head Halo worth 20% of her superhuman durability.
1x flexible ring worth 20% of her superhuman durability.
6x tail rings each worth 10% of her superhuman durability.
-Reactors-
5x spinal reactors each worth 20% of her superhuman speed.
After a forty posts baubles and enhancers will reappear/regenerate/manifest.
2. Shion's microreactors are an integral source of her speed enhancements. They only create the chemicals that are injected into her so fast, and in daily life and no need to go overboard it generally never runs out. However if abused in combat and overused it will run dry, at which point she will need to wait 3 posts for her speed to come back from average Human levels. This abuse is defined by 2+ consecutive turns of critical speed (175-200MPH). If all of her microreactors are destroyed in a fight through means outlined in the first weakness, she will lose her speed boosts and will likely be unable to reacquire them for the rest of the fight except for applying a supermove.
3. Shion is susceptible to the same thing all mutation quirks are, the limitations of the superhuman body. Just as a normal person can get exhausted from running, so to can she. Of course she's an incredible athlete and regularly trains, but she still has her limits.
SKILL NAME: Impulse (Martial Arts)
SKILL RANK: Platinum.
SKILL DESCRIPTION: 'They understand their chosen Martial arts with a level of mastery.' In Starstrikes case she has over the years acquired an unfathomable combat impulse and instinct. Her movements and actions while unable to be fit into any sophisticated martial arts are all done with a purpose and function. In close combat (even with her Raygun) she is a master at abusing holes in opponents defensive or outright plowing through them.
SKILL NAME: Raygun Weapon Training
SKILL RANK: Gold.
SKILL DESCRIPTION: 'They understand their chosen weapon at an expert level.' Given the very firearm-esque nature of the weapon, she has a decent grasp on most pistols. Of course, this is her pride and joy and she does better with the Raygun design than anything else at this point in time. She is just short of mastery and the designs still have a few kinks to sort out, but she's aspiring to reach mastery soon.
SKILL NAME: Determination (Mental Resistance)
SKILL RANK: Silver.
SKILL DESCRIPTION: 'They can reduce the effect of a mind-affecting quirk by 2 posts.' Starstrike's convictions are too strong to be abused by mental attacks. Of course, they do still effect her for a shorter period of time.
