Always treat people the way you want to be treated! Always be kind and offer help to those who need it, always believe in others and provide hope for those who need a light, always be polite and the first to reach out. These are things that Rui's picked up on with his time of being together with his adoptive sister, habits that he's learnt from watching and hearing about all her noble adventures as a renowned vigilante. Even so, he seems not to have her cynicism nor pessimism towards the situation of the world, always remembering to have a friendly smile no matter what happens!

Introverts beware! Once you gain his attention, there's no way you're escaping his friendship requests!


Just slightly shorter than most, Rui isn't someone who particularly stands out in a crowd when he doesn't wish to. Light and summery, he loves comfy clothes that don't restrict his movement and provide enough insulation for after his odd swims. Regularly pairing shirts with shorts and a sleeveless vest with a hood, Rui also seems to have an additional layer of bandages wrapped around his chest just for the sake of hiding his scars.



It was an odd start to childhood, being born at sea that is. He doesn't remember getting a name in those early years, whether because he wasn't given one or he was simply too young to remember. All he remembers from those times was that he and his family lived in a floating home miles from the coast of any country, relying on the ocean to provide food and living amidst the gentle tides. But no matter how large or vast the sea may be, he became curious to find out what existed beyond the colourful reefs and abundance of creatures lying in the deep, swimming far from home to explore the unknown at the crack of dawn and returning right as the stars began to shine. It was a schedule he followed almost every day, always being careful of predators lurking in the waters and hunting fresh catch along the way.

Until the storm struck. As a mere 4 year old with a small build, he found himself swept up in the tides, attempting to fight against the current as best as he could, only to get struck unconscious by a surge of lightning and left to the whims of fate. And as fate would have it, he would wash up upon the shores of an unfamiliar land, cradled by an oddly feline-like man as he nursed the salt-inflamed burns. This would be how he met Alexander Tyrsson, a man who went by the alias of Cheshire, and how he would gain the name of Selkie.

For 6 years, he would live with Alexander and his ragtag family of societal outcasts, bearing witness to the brewing horrors that existed in their veins. Cheshire would start by adopting children orphaned by the loss of their villain-aligned parents, outcasts that no one would have thought twice to look for, indoctrinating them to be loyal and die for his cause - To create strong individuals that wouldn't be held back by mere labels of society, to overturn the world system that favoured the heroes and create a world where everyone was equal. It was no doubt a valiant cause but one done at the price of many young lives as they got arrested in organised crimes and if not, death by the hands of quirk experimentation.

In fear of being the next one on the chopping block, Selkie would have learnt to keep his head down, picking up skills of data analysis to make himself seemingly indispensable, training stealth and speed to avoid the heroes whenever their base got raided and learning some self-defense to prepare for the worst case scenarios.

The worst would come to pass when he was 10, his supposed saviour having incurred the wrath of a passing vigilante. In a fit of rage, she would tear through the corridors of their base with spine-chilling elegance, a maddened hare that would not stand for Alexander's twisted ways. However, having dived into combat with fresh wounds from unknown sources, Selkie knew that she was bound to fall, watching as the Cheshire set her aflame and left her for dead. As soon as the man had fled from the crime scene, he would rush to aid the vigilante with the little that he knew of his quirk, putting out the fire and cooling her burns just enough for her to be rescued by an older vigilante in the area.

He'd go with the duo, unwittingly adopted by their refusal to abandon a mere child on the streets and earned himself a new name, Rui Nakajima Cuthbert - A mixture of both vigilantes' names. For the next 6 years, he'd be catching up on all the foundational education he'd missed and spent time learning the ways of vigilantism, getting into a few street brawls and busting a few criminal rings with the aid of his two veteran mentors. Of course, they'd never have allowed him to participate in anything that carried the potential of death for a mere child, but they most certainly preferred that he'd get a taste of the real world and develop skills such that he could survive should Alexander have ever decided to return for him. But these experiences gave Rui a love for thrill, resulting in him sprouting the fervent desire to help all those in need and stopping villains from committing such atrocious acts against the sanctity of life.

Even now, he still continues to follow in his mentors' footsteps, secretly helping to maintain the peace on the streets of Japan and bettering himself by the day. When he's not attending classes in school, Rui's mostly messing around like most other kids do but when danger arises, he's one of the first people to act and definitely the first to run when law enforcers arrive. After all, how can you possibly help the world if you're rotting away in a jail cell?
