Akira is a friendly and kindhearted girl with a strong sense of justice, eagerly looking forward to becoming a Pro Hero and doing her part to make the world a better place; even if only a little. As such, she strives to constantly train and improve herself, hoping to be as ready for the day that she can actually start fighting crime for real. She's a girl with a lot of passion, determination and enthusiasm who always does her best to finish whatever she starts..
That said, there have been times when her passion and determination can overrule common sense. While not necessarily unintelligent, Akira tends to adopt an "act first, think later" approach to pretty much anything. She's also not exactly the most observant or perceptive of people. When she buckles down and focuses on her studies, she does quite well. It's just a matter of actually getting her to buckle down and focus.
She is rather self-conscious when it comes to her body, especially since the side-effects of her Quirk make it difficult for her to wear any actual clothing. While she's more or less gotten used to having to wander around in little more than swimwear, it's when people start assuming she's just doing it for attention or trying to "butter up" the authorities by showing some skin that it bothers her. She does her best to ignore it, but it's easier said than done.
Regardless, she'll go to pretty extreme lengths to even partially relieve herself of her own body heat, and will gravitate towards anything even remotely cold; this extends to anything she eats or drinks, and a room with a powerful AC is a must for her. It probably doesn't surprise anyone that winter is her favorite season, especially when the weather gets cold enough that she can actually afford to wear a single thin layer of clothes.
It's not much, but it's something, and in general, Akira has definitely learned to appreciate the little things.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT: 5'4"
WEIGHT: 112 lbs
EYE COLOR: Grey
HAIR COLOR: Brown
FACECLAIM NAME: Makoto Kikuchi
FACECLAIM SERIES: THE iDOLM@STER
Akira is pretty much average for her age when it comes to height, coming up to about 5'4". She has somewhat short black hair, which is always a little unkempt, with a few loose strands hanging out here and there. Her eyes are a soft brown color. Overall, her face is fairly tomboyish-looking, though she has enough of a figure to make it otherwise obvious that she is indeed female.
Her body is slender, but well-toned, with an athletic appearance befitting one with the kind of training she's gone though. Her chest is a bit on the small side, but just not-flat enough to be noticeable; about a B-cup. Due to the side effects of her quirk (more on that below), she can't wear very much in the way of actual clothing, and more or less has to go around in a bikini at all times.
As one can imagine, this makes her stand out quite a bit, and not necessarily in a good way. After all, there are many people who assume that she simply dresses this way to get attention, when the truth is she would love nothing more than to be able to wear modest clothing. For now, she just does the best she can with what she's got, and hopes that such a day may eventually come.
HISTORY
Half-Japanese and half-English by blood, Akira was born to Saibara Ogawa, a former Pro Hero who was forced to retire after an injury permanently crippled his legs, and Elena Ogawa (nee Bishop), a reformed villain from England who had moved to Japan to escape from the judgmental eyes of a hometown who refused to accept that she had turned over a new leaf.
Unfortunately, it turned out her exploits were just famous enough for the her to get pegged as a criminal anyway. Ultimately, it was Saibara who reached out to her, seeing that she'd already served her time and appeared to genuinely wish to leave her life of crime in the past. Over time, the two of them started bonding, and eventually began dating. Two years later, Saibara proposed.
While most weren't thrilled with the idea of Saibara marrying even a former villain, he had enough clout to prevent any sort of backlash. Eventually, Elena was given plenty of chances to show she truly was reformed, and she slowly-but-steadily won over those who had initially been against the union. Thus began their rather interesting life together.
About a year later, Akira was born.
A tomboy from the beginning, she proved herself to be quite energetic and adventurous even at a very young age, much to her parent's constant exasperation. While she never actively went out of her way to look for trouble, she often had little trouble finding it. Especially during her brief stint as something of a "bully hunter". It didn't take very long at all for anyone to realize she'd inherited her father's sense of justice.
She was, like many children, four years old when her quirk first manifested. Her father's quirk was that he could generate large amounts of heat from the palms of his hands (his hero name was, fittingly enough, Heat Wave), while her mother's quirk was a simple-but-effective "muscle memory" one that allowed her to flawlessly copy any physical movements she saw, which she used to quickly learn various styles of martial arts to aid in her villainy.
It was generally assumed that Akira's Quirk would probably be something heat-related like her father's; neither of them were ready for how true that would be. As one can imagine, it was dicey at first, as what initially seemed like a simple fever turned out to be much, much more. Though her body was relatively quick to adjust to it, there were still a few scary moments when it all first started that made it seem as though she might be in some actual danger.
She pulled through, and after some blood work, it was confirmed; her Quirk was that her blood was extremely hot. Needless to say, this meant a lot of changes in Akira's overall life style. Though it took a while to figure things out, she did eventually fall into a routine that allowed her to live fairly comfortably, all things considered. Life went on, as normally as possibly as it could for her, but she slowly reached the point where "normal" wouldn't cut it.
From the beginning, she was inspired by her father. Once a former Pro Hero, he now made a living writing and selling a popular series of adventure books called "Hero's Path", which he loosely based on his own exploits. Between reading that series almost religiously and hearing many tales of things he actually did, it came as a surprise to absolutely no one when she started expressing her intentions of following in his footsteps.
Knowing that it would probably take an act of multiple Gods to change her mind, her parents relented. Her mother, in particular, decided, if nothing else, Akira could stand to do some training and learn a bit of self-defense. At least until she got a better grasp of what she could actually do with her Quirk. Thus, Akira trained with her mother, learning the basics of various styles of martial arts and molding bits and pieces of them into her own personal style.
Meanwhile, her father, being used to dealing with heat himself (even if his wasn't a constant thing like Akira's), helped her make all of the adjustments necessary for her to at least try to live a normal life, and also helped her slowly figure out the ins and outs of her quirk. Soon, Akira was as ready as she would ever be. She had a strong foundation for becoming a hero; it would be up to her to build upon it and realize her full potential.
As for which schools he would attend, her immediate thoughts went to UA. But then a different school caught her eye. Isamu Academy High School located in the outskirts of Tokyo. They were well known for their cutting-edge technology and designs when it came to hero costumes. Surely, they'd be able to come up with something that would not only allow her to fight effectively, but better deal with her Quirk's side effects on a more day-to-day basis.
Hell, they might even be able to come up with a way for her to actually wear some clothes. The mere thought of actually being able to put on some pants for once in her life made this school a no-brainer, and she signed up immediately. Having since been accepted, she now eagerly looks forward to what the next few years of her life will have in store for her.
ITEMS
• Cell phone
• An extensively-filled notebook with information and observations she or someone else has made about her quirk and ways to live around it.
• A study canvas utility belt with multiple pouches; since she can't really wear clothes, it's the next best thing, since not having pockets can kinda suck
Quirk AND SKILLS
QUIRK: Boiling Blood
QUIRK TYPE: Mutation
QUIRK RANK: Gold
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Boiling Blood is almost exactly what it sounds like; while it doesn't actually physically boil within her veins, her blood is so hot to the touch that it feels like it should be boiling. Any blood that leaves her body will begin to slowly-but-steadily cool off, though it still still remain very hot for a while. How quickly it cools depends on the temperature of the environment.
Her body quickly adapted to this Quirk once it first manifested; her veins, muscles, internal organs and skin have all been "tempered" (for lack of a better word) to allow her to live in spite of the extreme heat inside of her body, though she has to be extremely careful about keeping cool, as her body runs a constant risk of "overheating" (see below) when exposed to any external heat sources.
She also has an offensive way of using her Quirk, though it's not one she's fond of using due to how gross it feels for both herself and her opponent. There are small slits between each of her knuckles on both hands (which are small enough to be mostly invisible when closed, which she can open up to shoot out some of her burning blood in quick bursts.
While she can technically shoot her blood out as far as twenty feet if necessary, she typically prefers to do it in short, point-blank bursts, usually as a way to supplement her punches since she likes to be up close and personal. If push comes to shove, however, she can and will fire it from a long range if melee isn't an option.
Getting hit by her blood (whether it be from this attack or if she simply flicks some at an opponent from an open wound) feels like getting splashed with boiling water, and because of how thick blood is compared to water, the burning feeling will remain until it either cools (which takes up to 7 posts) or is completely washed off.
The immediate effects are along the line the of a first-degree burn, while prolonged exposure (four or more posts) can result in a more serious second-degree burn. Either way, they're usually nothing that can't be treated with medicine or a healing quirk.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS: The biggest drawback of Boiling Blood is how much it impacts her day-to-day life. Her body has adapted enough for Akira to not outright die from the extreme heat inside of her body, but it still takes a considerable amount of effort for her to keep cool, to the point that she struggles with it every day of her. It's gotten easier, but it's still difficult.
While one might assume that the heat in her body would give her some sort of heat resistance, the opposite holds true. She has difficulty handling any sort of external sources of heat, whether it be hot water, a lot of steam or simply being out in the sun on a hot day. It's so bad that even something as simple as wearing clothes can be dangerous for her if she isn't extremely careful.
Too much exposure to extra heat can lead to her "overheating", as she likes to call it. To put it simply, when she reaches this point, her body begins experience the symptoms that a normal person would go through when suffering from an especially bad fever; i.e., headaches, nausea, physical weakness, etc. Needless to say, it's not good.
Unless she finds a way to cool herself off quickly, she typically reaches this state after 7 posts.
To this end, she has to go to many lengths to keep herself as cool as possible and avoid reaching this state. With the school's permission, she not only carries around a large jug filled with ice water at all times, but she's also been allowed to attend classes wearing what is essentially a uniform that has been modified into a bikini, as anything heavier runs the risk of overheating.
She also has to regularly eat or drink any very cold (if not outright frozen) foods and beverages. 90% of the time, this comes in the form of a nutrient-enriched ice cream and slushies, but she can eat just about anything so long as it's still edible and tastes reasonably well while it's cold. This isn't to say she can't eat hot foods at all, but doing so is fairly uncomfortable.
The second major thing she has to look out for is actually directly related to the above, and it's a simple-but-dangerous one. Take the constant physical toll that her burning blood takes on her body and add the emotional toll of trying to live around it, and we have a girl whose stress levels can rise up very quickly. Needless to say, this can be bad.
Stress, for one, can lead to hypertension (high blood pressure), which is already bad enough for a normal person, let alone someone with almost literally boiling blood. If it gets especially bad, she'll have an extremely hard time focusing when she needs to, which can be especially bad in the middle of a battle. As such, it's imperative that she finds healthy ways to vent her stress, which is easier said than done.
The third and most simple drawback is that the very nature of her quirk makes it difficult to use in battle. While her body does compensate a little by replenishing her blood at a slightly-faster-than-usual, this doesn't change the fact that the only way for her to use make use of her quirk is to actually lose blood, and she can only lose so much blood before the usual effects of blood-loss start taking their toll on her. .
One last thing worth noting as that, as a result of her Quirk, her skin always feels very warm, as though she's running a full-body fever pretty much 24/7. Because of this, it can be hard to tell if/when she's sick until other symptoms start showing themselves, leaving her open to be blindsided by a potential cold or any other illness where an increase in bodily temperature is a major symptom.
SKILL NAME: Martial Arts
SKILL RANK: Bronze
SKILL DESCRIPTION: To prepare her for the whole "fighting crime" aspect of being a hero, Akira's mother Elena taught her the most bare-bones basics of several different styles of martial arts, including karate, kenpo, aikido, and even some boxing, giving Akira a foundation on which she can experiment and mold what she knows together into a personal fighting style that she can call her own. Of course, she's only barely begun to figure this out for herself, but she's confident that she'll figure it out she goes along.
SKILL NAME: Enhanced Endurance
SKILL RANK: Bronze
SKILL DESCRIPTION: Her mother's training has also given her a bit more stamina than the average person, which comes in handy with hand-to-hand fighting. Can run at max speed without getting tired for 3 posts.
