OVERVIEW
ALIAS: The Calculating Hero
AGE: 29
GENDER: Male
ROLE: Shiketsu Quirk Studies Teacher
ALTER EGO: Meijin
CHARACTER SUMMARY
From a very young age, Akihiro has had an immaculate work-ethic, and he has long since been in the constant pursuit of knowledge. Curiosity—the desire to know that which is unknown is a heavy motivator for him. Even after falling to despair following his disillusionment with the life of a hero, he was ever studious. His diligence has garnered him much respect in the scientific community with many of his peers acknowledging that he is one of the brightest minds in the field of Quirk Science.
As a teacher, he is incredibly strict on his students. His classes are known for being brutally hard as most students who don't fail only make it through his class with a barely passable grade. He is also rather stern and openly cynical with his views, often warning students of the dark realities of the life of a hero. He even goes so far as to put students through hyper-realistic scenarios that often test their resolve as heroes. Despite only being a teacher for a little over a year, he has already earned a reputation for failing students and/or scaring them away from the hero path.
As a young boy, Akihiro always dreamed of being a noble hero. At the age of 4, the age in which Quirks typically manifest, Akihiro's was notably absent. The absence of the extra pinky toe joint suggested that he possessed a Quirk, but the doctors in his hometown were unable to diagnose what it was. By the time he was 8, and his Quirk had yet to manifest, his doctor suggested that Akihiro's Quirk was either inert or nonexistent. He chose to believe that it was inert. So long as he held onto that belief, there was hope—hope that he could one day become a noble hero.
Figuring out how to activate his Quirk became his goal, and it was certainly one that he dedicated himself to. Still a child, he spent countless hours in libraries and many sleepless nights reading papers published by some of the world's most brilliant Quirk researchers. He did this all in the hopes that he'd one day be able to crack the code and awaken his Quirk.
By the time he reached the age to attend a hero school, he had still yet to unlock his Quirk. He had run thousands of tests, simulations, and the like in an effort to awaken his Quirk but to no avail. The possibility that his Quirk might've been something unnoticeable seemed to be highly likely, but Akihiro refused to abandon hope. Unable to make the cut for the hero student course, Akihiro ended up enrolling in Shiketsu's support course. Struggle as he did, he was never able to break his way into the hero student course, nor was he able to discover his Quirk.
After graduation, he enrolled at Tohoku University, double majoring in Quirk Science and Hero Education. For his final project, he submitted a dissertation paper based on the research he conducted while trying to unlock his Quirk. With the support of the undergraduates that he was assigned to teach as part of his studies, he was able to synthesize a special type of sugar from scratch that was able to activate his Quirk Factor. Though he had unlocked his Quirk before completing his project, he put off his pursuit to become a hero in order to complete his doctorate, graduating with a PhD in Quirk Science and a Master's in Hero Education at the age of 24.
After graduating, he dedicated a year of his life to training and honing his Quirk as he had quite a lot of lost time that he needed to make up for. With his knowledge of Quirks, however, he was able to train his Quirk with maximum efficiency and grow at an exponentially fast rate. After a full year of training, he took the Hero Licensing Exam and passed with flying colors.
Still in debt from his lifetime in college, he was unable to start his own hero agency to forge his own path. Instead, he was scouted by a Pro Hero by the name of Quasar who believed that Akihiro's Quirk and brain would make for an incredible asset for his agency. For the next two years, Akihiro worked as Quasar's sidekick, further honing his abilities, learning what it means to be a hero, and taking home a paycheck to pay off his educational debt. Unfortunately, after the first few months on the job, Akihiro began to see the ugly side of heroism. Violence, destruction, greed, and death.
His entire life, he had this idyllic vision of what the hero life was, but living it, he realized that he was just a naïve child. Disillusioned by the world of heroism, he resigned from the Quasar Hero Agency and became a shut-in. As the bills piled up, Akihiro found himself back in immense debt and on the verge of losing his apartment. Quasar, worried about his old sidekick, helped to pull him out of his depression and gave him a new purpose in life: preparing the next generation. As one might expect, Akihiro didn't want anything to do with sending children off to fight in a horrific, never-ending war. After months of consideration (and pestering from Quasar), Akihiro agreed to become a teacher if only to warn the next generation of the horrors of heroism. Using his connections, Quasar managed to get Akihiro his pick of hero schools to teach at. Ultimately, Akihiro chose to teach at his old alumni: Shiketsu.
Quirk AND SKILLS
QUIRK TYPE: Emitter
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Akihiro's Quirk grants him the ability to convert sugar into exotic energy. The exotic energy follows the light spectrum meaning that the energy he produces can be one of—or a combination of—the seven colors with Red being the weakest and Violet being the strongest. The exotic energy can be shaped and formed to his will. He has five types of Kido abilities: Destruction, Construction, Binding, Traps, and Utility. Channeling his Quirk often requires him to use special words, phrases, or hand/arm movements in order to get the most potent effects that he desires.
Interestingly enough, Akihiro's liver produces a special type of unique sugar which is the main source of energy for both his body and his Quirk. His liver is more than capable of storing normal sugars and the like, but it is inadequate in fueling him unless he consumes a large quantity of it. Instead, he must consume a special type of synthetic sugar of his own creation daily. Because of his Quirk, Akihiro has a higher sugar tolerance, and his liver produces and stores much more sugar than the average human.
Overuse of his Quirk can lead to Akihiro experiencing hypoglycemia. During these times, he experiences shaking, dizziness, throbbing headaches, an increased heart-rate, confusion, anxiety, feelings of weakness, blurry vision, and difficulty speaking. Excessive overuse could even lead to him having seizures or even kill him in worst case scenarios.
