On Heroism-Reignited is a My Hero Academia world in which heroism never truly turns away the shadow of darkness that villainy holds over the land. There has never been a shining light such as All Might to scare villainy out of evil with sheer presence alone, instead every month is a grueling battle just hoping to take some of villainy's territory away from them. The most influential hero of all time in Japan, Sunburst, was grossly killed by a massive villain group over 100 years ago, ever since there has been a growing discontent in society, a lack of faith in heroism and many are growing restless from the looming threat of one more powerful push from villainy truly being the end of such bravery.
Technology has advanced to the point where solid holograms are possible, while not being fully implemented into weaponry quite yet the technology has proved stable enough to use in artificial environments and the higher end structures are taking advantage of the technology for rooms. Games have reached the point of triple A virtual reality, but it hasn't replaced regular video games as the staple form of entertainment. Sports have evolved to allow quirks actively with heavy restrictions on the ring and safety gear instead of heavily regulated quirks, these sports have to be held in private stadiums as to prevent potential harm that can come to onlookers. Many of our modern games are very much considered retro so coming up with new franchises or remakes to old ones is probably better than referencing things that are too modern, but spin-offs or "bootleg" versions are certainly allowed!
Many cultural sites have formed over prior hero battles, while many have slowly grown out of public favor they surely do exist. Going outside at night is widely considered a bad idea in this world with many older figures looking upon it with distaste, but many who enjoy the nightlife still disregard these fears. Hero Schools have stopped dealing in classes not dealing with heroic studies, leaving that to more specialized schools so they can focus more of their budget on teaching new heroes who can hopefully bring back light to the land.
The last major villain group, Liberty, was quelled nearly 100 years ago shortly after the death of Sunburst, the Golden Hero who died in combat with the villain group. Their goal was to bring about an end to heavy quirk regulation so that anyone would be free to develop their quirk as they would any other part of their body, a cause that has gained some traction as of late with stricter quirk limits coming into place along with the development of the quirk database, a system that allows the government as well as heroes to know both your quirks strengths and weaknesses. Many have heard whispers of Liberty making a comeback but those are merely rumors in the back-alleys of Tokyo.
Within the last twenty years both heroes and villains have been in a deadlock with the heroes growing more aggressive about dealing with villainy, with many preferring to quell threats before they can even pop up a trend that many higher up heroes disapprove of. Vigilantes have been a growing prospect with many taking up arms to attempt to become one, but no named vigilantes have become widely known yet with many local advertisements active pumping out PSA's attempting to stop potential ones from appearing though with growing threat of a villain rising up, heroes have been working in an unannounced truce with those with good judgement and justice behind their movement.

It's been over 2 months without word from the number 1 hero about their plans to deal with the looming threat of villainy attempting another large scale uprising. Attempts at trying to contact her have been met with silence, and many are prepared to scale her tower and bring her out. On top of that the number 4 hero Semicolon has been crippled in a rescue incident, to the point of having to retire early thus putting the hero of divisive opinion Evangeline in her place. These two major incidents have led to public distrust in hero society as a whole and many urging children from going out in the afternoon due to the majority opinion being that if you get caught by a villain that a hero is definitely not showing up to save you.
Due to growing distrust in heroism, the profession as a whole has seen a major decline with many students preferring to go into law enforcement positions, or hoping to grow up and become a vigilante in an attempt to fix villainy in their own way. This has led many hero schools to having to close up classes other than hero studies so that they could make use of what money they have left. Many who are taking hero classes are viewed with general uncertainty, unsure if there is any point in trying to become a hero with their draining efficiency.
The threat of a new villain organization rising up and taking advantage of the weakened state of the hero society as a whole is growing, and many think that Tokyo will become a battleground at this rate with the civilians being caught in the crossfire. A building movement of "Weaponize Your Quirk" is picking up traction, with many civilians feeling they have no choice but to actively train their quirk for combat in case they have to defend their home and family. This again has built up a reputation for people becoming vigilantes, something the hero society is desperate to prevent due to the potential backfiring of such an outcome.
It's early summer and an especially showery day. Many have retired early to their homes, hoping to enjoy the peace and quiet. Their TV's glowing softly in the stormy evening, when their channels are suddenly changed to an emergency PSA. Afterglow the number 1 hero would appear somewhat sickly. Her skin growing pale and her hair tenuous. There is a uncertain expression crossing her face for a moment... but it'd slowly curl into a thin smile. Many are glowed to their screens, the large screens in Tokyo suddenly filled with her weak image, darkness littering the room behind her. She'd speak in that all too familiar heroic style, "I can't... save you all." Her eyes would flicker in and out, as if viewing a million images at once. All of them threatening to shake her expression. A cold finger would reach out from beneath her sweater, an outfit far from that of her brave caped hero persona. It'd place down against the camera, the darkness would seem to shift around her for a moment but it'd be nothing more than a trick of the light as a feint glow seemed to radiate off of her, "But... heroism isn't dead. Heroism can't die... it can't..." Her head would tilt as the brilliant glow around her would intensify, "Heroism exists within everyone... everyone who prays for warmth in the summer shower... everyone who looks up to the wishing stars and whisper a dream... and it exists within all of you..." She'd smile brightly, "You're heroism!" Her finger would seem to reach out to all the millions of people who were watching her. It'd point at the next generation, the current generation, those of the past, and those who've yet to come. It was a message... a spark...
Suddenly the screen would cut out and the roof of the Afterglow Tower would explode into a brilliant light, glass would shatter around it as it suddenly grew into heavy lock down. Large metal walls slamming down along the entire length of the building and coating it into a total isolation. It was almost like a metallic cube was left in place of what once stood as the peak of heroism's second coming... yet... among the panicked, the worried, and the grins of villains there was a message. One last spark to help reignite heroism, as long as there is someone to pick up the spark... there will always be heroism.
It's been over three months since the Afterglow Incident as it's come to be known, and there has been little luck into breaking into the heavily secured facility. Many have already ruled her out as dead... while many of the Hero Society hold onto hope that she's still alive. Those who've been losing hope in heroism have only grown more weary about the potential that it will ever be able to protect anyone again. But among the fear and the uncertainty there are those who are willing to bring that heroism back... those who truly believed the words she said. Will heroism be reignited or will it be left in the cold withering storm? That is for you to decide.
